About me

Gender Male
Occupation Media Entrepreneur + Educator
Location Detroit-ish, Michigan, United States
Introduction Based in suburban Detroit, I am an attorney running my own practice focusing on family law, business law, estate planning and entertainment law. I also have an extensive history in Detroit media, having been a founder of 89X, a long-time columnist for the Metro Times, and appearing on-air on a host of "The Lex Files" on the Michigan Talk Radio Network and a correspondent for "Backstage Pass" on Detroit Public Television, as well as various other radio stations.
Interests Balancing and juggling the quests for money, fun, responsibility, satisfaction and the greater good. Beyond that: family, friends, sports (Detroit teams, University of Michigan and, believe it or not, English Premiership soccer), government and politics, pop culture of all shapes and sizes.
Favorite Movies The 40 Year Old Virgin, Citizen Kane, Risky Business, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Die Hard ("How you say? Yippee-kay-yea, muzzafahkah."), Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous, Fast Times at Ridgemont High (hi, Cameron), The American President, All the President's Men, Dave, Animal House, Broadcast News, American Beauty, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Galaxy Quest, Saving Private Ryan, Love Actually (any Working Title pic, really), Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation, any Monty Python (especially Holy Grail), Quadrophenia, Rock 'n' Roll High School, Out of Sight, Good Night and Good Luck, Toy Story (anything by Pixar, really), Fly Away Home, Stop Making Sense.
Favorite Music Everything that I, recovering music snob, like: > Vintage Alternative -- Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Rockpile, Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, Cheap Trick, REM, Pretenders, U2. > Great American music, from Aaron Copeland to George Gershwin to the Ramones to Lucinda Williams to TV on the Radio. > Whatever is current and good: Fountains of Wayne, Coldplay, Keane, Gorillaz, Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Hives, Kanye, Kaiser Chiefs, TV on the Radio, Angels and Airwaves. . . and on it goes. Oh, and God help me, Kelly Clarkson and Nickelback make amazing singles. > Anything from The D: John Lee Hooker, MC5, Iggy and the Stooges, Motown, Seger, Alice Cooper (no Nugent, due to aberrant politics), Romantics, Madonna, all the Techno guys, Eminem, Bob Ritchie, White Stripes, Raconteurs, the Go.
Favorite Books Mostly business and self-help. Many, many periodicals, however: Detroit Free Press, WSJ, Sunday NYT, Entertainment Weekly, Golf, Crain's Detroit Business, The Week, Esquire, People, Ad Age, some others buried in my In Box, I'm sure.
