Introduction I used to work in foreign aid programs for the US Government. The bureaucracy wore on me, and one of my bosses once told me "Don't stay in the bureaucracy, it will kill your soul." It took me four years of college, two years of grad school, and five years in the bureaucracy to figure out this was what was happening-my soul was dying. I realized I prefer playing with food, photography, web pages, and other visual, tactile, hands-on stuff that is tangible. After two years in Nicaragua, I decided to go to culinary school. My time in Nicaragua really changed my perspective. Absent the constant barrage of advertising and with a regular Ashtanga yoga routine, my mind cleared and food became my focus. After studying at L'Academie de Cuisine just outside of Washington DC, I did some time with restaurants, caterers, personal cheffing, and in chocolate. I still do a bit of everything part time, as well as work full-time as a stay-at-home Dad. I take pride in having no official ties to the food industry; I don't write about celebrity chefs or goings-on in the culinary industry, I just try and provide useful info for regular people.
