Introduction The first meeting of the Davie County Quilt Guild was held on August 9, 1999. This meeting was the result of Mary Anna Smoot wanting to start a Quilt Guild. She and Wylene Keller and others were already getting together to quilt. Wylene and Mary Anna got on the phone and called their friends and said, “Let’s start a Davie County Quilt Guild.” There were 26 women at the first meeting at the Davie County Library. From that meeting, the Guild grew and grew. In September 1999 the By-Laws for the Guild were drafted and approved; the official “established” date for the Guild is September 1999. Over the years the Guild has held two quilt shows, presented quilting demonstrations and finished quilts at Farm Day in Mocksville, Heritage Day in Cooleemee, and for the Preservation Society at the Peter Hairston Farm. The Guild continues to serve Davie County by providing blankets and lap quilts to the LINUS project. This project places blankets and quilts in police and rescue vehicles in the county for children and adults in crisis. The Guild continues to grow and is now over 50 strong!!!
