Robyn Valentine
| Introduction | My name is Robyn Valentine and I am a artist. Growing up, wearing makeup was never on my radar; I could watch my mom apply her makeup all day and feel no desire to wear any myself. Makeup simply did not interest me. During my sophomore year of high school I discovered the show that truly revolutionized my life, “Rupaul’s Drag Race.” Watching these fully grown men transform into these ultra glamorous women had an effect on me. Drag queens taught me that the world cannot define you, only I can define myself. I learned how I could use makeup to empower myself; I could be anyone and anything. Makeup was the artistic outlet I needed, but never wanted. Believe it or not, when I started, my makeup could have easily qualified me to be a drag queen. Because I had only watched drag queens do their makeup I did not understand how to apply makeup for my face, I was CAKED & PAINTED! Now a days I follow a diverse group of makeup artists and have taught myself through reading books such as those of Kevyn Aucoin to learn different makeup applications. My dream is to have a resume as decorated as Mary Greenwell and with the way things are going I feel quite confident I’ll get there. |
