Introduction	Hugh Martin has been writing for years, starting with a high school Journalism class taught by Jerry Thompson. He contributed to the school newspaper, the East Wind, during his junior year, then was named co-editor in 1977-78. His first opportunity to write for a small, upstart regional newspaper called the Hometown News came during the early 1980s. Over the next couple of decades he would write press releases for various community groups as a public service just because he enjoyed the craft. In 2006, as a result of some of those releases he was asked to join the staff of The Post newspaper in Montgomery County. Following the closure of that newspaper in 2009 he became a free-lance writer at the request of Asheboro's Courier-Tribune newspaper. His work appears there and in various media outlets throughout the region.
