| Introduction | I live in north Louisiana of the southern United States. These smaller painted sketches and drawings will be for the buyer who wants an affordable piece or two of my work. While this is an appealing idea, most of my work can't be finished in a day, nor at times in a week, a month, or even a year. I do landscapes, figrative things, and larger abstractions in oil. Landscapes are made from life whenever possible; at the very least I begin a piece from life while circumstance may not afford my going on-site often enough to suit the painting; in addition, living with and studying the painting in the studio is necessary to ensure it is what I intend it to be. I like orchards of any type and industrial looking mixes of unassuming, run-down buildings with shrubbery that springs up volunteer. These are not pretty things, but they may be beautiful, as are the dingy, industry-lined canals of New Orleans. The abstract paintings generally read as atmospheric landscapes; it is my nature to see in this way, to feel need for weight and distance. My web site: www.DancingOkra.com |
