Interests Sometimes something is left behind that needs rescuing. My Mom used to go to estate sales and feel sorry for someone’s deserted tea cup and felt she needed to give it a home. So I grew up in a home full of orphaned items which all had a story. Sometimes when I look at a rusty lunch box in a ditch I try to imagine the long journey of where it may have been and how it got there. Just like an old lunch box, life has a way of weathering us around the edges and shaking us up to give us more character. It seems to me, that reverencing the lost and abandoned, the simple and broken, and by enshrining the plain and precious I am more aware of how I got where I am and happy to have the stories to tell. Artist Jesse Royston a resident of the Gulf Coast and no stranger to hurricanes has gathered interesting textures and objects from home and elsewhere and presented them in a repurposed way. Some items are rescued from disaster, others were simply discarded by one and reclaimed by another.
