OccupationVisual Artist
IntroductionHi, I’m Thavisouk “Thavi” Phrasavath—a filmmaker, editor, writer, director, and visual artist guided by a deep respect for story and community. Born in Laos, my life journey as a refugee has shaped how I see the world and the stories I choose to tell. The Betrayal (Nerakhoon)—a deeply personal and collaborative documentary—was an opportunity to share my family’s experience. I’m grateful it was recognized with an Academy Award nomination, a Primetime Emmy Award win, and a Film Independent Spirit Award nomination. As a Primetime Emmy Award-winning storyteller and the founder of EditIQ, I created this space to share what I’ve learned through years of filmmaking—blending traditional craft with emerging tools like AI, virtual production, and beyond. I’m also honored to be the first Laotian-American writer in the Writers Guild of America, West—a role I take with deep humility and pride. EditIQ is for creators who care about craft, collaboration, and pushing storytelling forward—together.
InterestsAs the creative force behind EditIQ, I’m a visual artist with a deep-rooted passion for storytelling through the lens. My work spans film and video editing, directing, and producing—crafting visuals that move, inform, and inspire. I’m especially fascinated by how today’s emerging technologies are transforming the creative process. From AI-powered editing tools and real-time virtual production to volumetric capture and neural rendering, I stay on the pulse of the innovations shaping the future of filmmaking. My mission is to explore, test, and share these cutting-edge tools with fellow creators—so we can all create smarter, faster, and more boldly than ever before.
