| Introduction | My name is Minshu, and I’m from China. The picture above is me, taken on a Saturday morning when I was running out of eggs to make me a big all-American breakfast. It was snowing the day I was born, and it was snowing the day I landed at Chicago O’Hare Airport. But I don’t think one incident had anything to do with the other. I like apples and pears just because they sound nice. I also like bright colors, Arabic coffee, deep-dish pizza (but not with pineapples on it, yuk!), the theme song from Mission Impossible, and the Daily Show with Jon Steward in it. I can’t stand dirty snow (And I live in Chicago!), overripe watermelon, unattended kids in grocery stores, and people with bad table manners. I never had the American Dream. I was taking a vacation. And the next thing I know, a decade has passed. I don't mind being labeled. Foreigner, stranger, whichever you like. But if you call me alien like they do in the Immigration Office, I’m gonna show you a real ass hole. |
