| Introduction | Robert M Chute, a sixth generation descendant of Thomas Chute, first settler of what is now Windham, Maine, was born in Naples, Maine, not far from the Chute River and now lives on Middle Range Pond in Poland, Maine, not far from Naples. A graduate of Freyburg Academy, the University of Maine and The Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, he is Professor Emeritus in Biology from Bates College. His poetry series, Thirteen Moons, has been republished in a triptych edition with translations in French and Passamquoddy. He received the Maine State chap book award for Samuel Sewall Sails For Home and Beloit Poetry Journal’s Chad Walsh Award for the poem, “Heat Wave in Concord.” His most recent poetry book is Constellations: 1970-2003, is a 184 page collection of story poems with an introduction by X. J. Kennedy. A collection of nature lyrics and photographs, Wildness Within Walking Distance is in the pipeline. A novel, Coming Home, has just been published. |
