Inca Mummy Group
My blogs
| Introduction | We are a group of students looking to explore burial practices in the Incan Empire. Specifically, we are looking at the two types of mummies associated with the Inca culture. The first types of mummy are those of deceased rulers kept in the capitol city of Cuzco. The other mummies are those of children sacrificed on the mountains in a practice called capacocha. We hope to investigate these two coexisting forms of mummification to discover how they came to be and what role they played within Incan society, including comparisons between the two Incan types of mummification and between Incan practices and those of other societies. Our investigation is focused on the archaeological evidence these actions left to researchers, including the benefits and limitations of such evidence and the potential ethical issues that may arise as a result of study in this area. |
