Introduction Metrosupial Designs, founded by Katie Pedersen in 2003, was born from a desire to create something comfortable and stylish to carry her newborn son. Her Seattle-based business now offers a mix of 100% handcrafted baby goods, specializing in custom-made infant pouch and ring slings. Katie works directly with her clients, involving them in the design process and helping them to create their own signature style slings. Katie is passionate about the benefits of babywearing and has been instructing families in the art of babywearing for three years. She teaches private babywearing lessons and holds babywearing workshops at Big Belly Services in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood and at Birth and Beyond in Madison. Metrosupial Designs’ workshops give people a hands-on opportunity to experiment with different styles of carriers and slings on the market today, as well as a chance to explore the benefits of babywearing for baby and caregiver. Katie also operates the Seattle Sling Lending Library, a community resource allowing families to borrow slings/carriers for a free, two week period to discover which types might work best for them.
