If you were a pirate, how would you avoid laughing when saying "poop deck"?
I would most likely think to the moment in Arthur Miller's play All My Sons—you know the scene—when Joe Keller hears that his son died because of Keller's unbelievable greed and contempt for others and then Keller goes inside, puts a gun to his head, and blows his brains out. The whole Keller family is ruined and shamed. I think that scene keeps me from laughing.
