| Introduction | I began learning about Yoga in 1994 in San Francisco. I was not at once "hooked" on Yoga, rather, puzzled by it and I think that strong curiosity I felt in my first downward dog was the start of something rich and internal has kept me tied to these practices for 18 years. My classes emphasize Svadyaya, or "self study" in Yoga, and developing strong self-relationship through the somatic work found in Hatha Yoga. My formal education in Yoga includes trainings in the Hatha Yoga styles such as ashtanga vinyasa, Iyengar, and yin with innovative and recognized teachers, including Sarah Powers, Donna Farhi and Patricia Sullivan as well as integrative anatomy studies with Gil Hedley and Leslie Kaminoff. I have been teaching Yoga since 2003 and had the challenge of teaching in New Zealand from 2004-2006 for the city of Wellington. In 2008, I established Smiling Dog Yoga in San Luis Obispo, CA which I owned and operated through 2011. I continue to teach there and volunteer with Restorative Partners, a non-profit organization that brings Yoga instruction to those incarcerated. I appreciate your interest in this blog and hope that it can be a resource of learning materials about Yoga. |
