About me

Location Erskine, United Kingdom
Introduction Erskine Writers was established in 1990. From the seed of a small group of keen writers we have blossomed into a respected group of around sixty members, including postal members. Members are given encouragement and support to develop their creative writing skills. There is a varied programme of manuscript readings, workshops and competitions, with occasional guest speakers, keeping members busy from September to May each year, on Tuesday afternoons within school term dates. We also have a summer evening group from June to August which is held on Tuesday evenings. This takes a hands-on workshop format, to develop practical writing skills and improve understanding of specific genres such as monologue writing, novel synopsis writing and so on. Attendees help form the syllabus to suit their own needs. Many members attend the annual Scottish Association of Writers weekend conference in March. This is a residential weekend with a high standard of guest speakers and adjudicators. This has been a pivotal experience for many of our members - some have been published for the first time as a direct result of winning competitions at the conference.
