Introduction	Karen Watson realized she was destined for a career in art at the early age of 5, when she entered her first competition at the Pasadena Star Newspaper in California and received 1st place. "I work with a large variety of soft pastels on toned sandpaper in my studio from photo references and in plein air. I favor loose and bold application of strokes and color aiming to create fresh and exciting pieces. The tooth of the paper allows for several layers of pastel lending the work a "painterly" feeling. My paintings are inspired by experiences and places I have been to or seen. I enjoy the spontaneity of the medium and the surprise it offers."
