| Introduction | Retired educator, former Navy Vietnam era helo pilot, able to fly Naval Air Reserves almost two decades. Proud owner of VW buses even more decades. Present toy: 1986 Westfalia Weekender. Original 2.1 engine shredded itself on I-5. Subaru 2.2 installed by Small Car, Tacoma, WA. Now able to navigate steep hills with a smile, including Sierra Nevada mountains. Recently purchased 2019 Dodge Promaster 136 hightop. Had it converted by amazing VanWorks, Fort Collins, CO—see our Introducing Uncle Robert post. It replaced Mz Agnes, our wonderful Ford Traverse Westy-style Poptop. She took us to Alaska twice, Western Canada, all over the US. Each was a necessity due to my partner’s spinal surgery and complications eight years ago, after which Vanagon ride was too rough. Bus my daily driver and vehicle for outings solo and with buddies. I’m further blessed: father of a lovely daughter and her husband, thriving in Seattle, and a wonderful son and his lovely bride, thriving in Bellingham, WA. Also lucky Bonus Dad of two sons, their wives, and two grandchildren, all living in SF Bay Area. Happily married to a kindred spirit who on our first outing to Death Valley in the bus did nothing but smile. |
