| Introduction | When working with struggling readers, Carleen focuses on 5 powerful learning tools to assist her students: Phonemic Awareness (understanding sounds without letters), Alphabetic Principal (understanding letter patterns and their sounds), Strategies for Comprehension (memory assistance for reading), Crossing the Midline (engaging the brain for learning) and Working Memory Accommodations and Training (reducing the working memory load and strengthen the brain for learning). Carleen earned an undergraduate degree in Child Development and a Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Special Education. She holds California Multiple Subject and Learning Handicapped teaching credentials, as well as, specialist certificates in Resource and Language Development. She has been trained in multiple literacy programs (Lindamood-Bell, Project Read, Language!, RAVE-O, Orton-Gillingham theory and methods and Barton Reading and Spelling). Carleen also has become a Certified Cogmed Working Memory practitioner. Here teaching spans over 25 years with regular and special education students. |
