Introduction	Since about 1972, I had dreamt of going to sea in my own boat. After raising two girls and following my career as a farmer to retirement, I made it happen. In 1998, I bought my first sailboat, a 16 foot sailing dinghy, and sailed the reservoirs of Nebraska and Kansas. Over the next several years, I moved from the sailing dinghy to a 19-foot pocket cruiser and a 17-foot sailing trimaran. On October 31st, 2003, I placed an order for a new Valiant 42 blue water cruising yacht. By December, 2006, I took her to sea with my wife, Joan.
