| Introduction | PBJ is a nickname a friend of mine and I came up with that describes me--I am a 24-year-old full-time seminarian studying to become an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. I also am a part-time student pastor at a 2-point rural charge. I have a love-hate relationship with the Church--I love the potential it has to do good in the world but hate the institution as it is. I have a dream to reform the church and hope to be one of the less than 5% of ordained clergy under the age of 30. Too often, I have head v. heart controversies--my head says reason and rationality and my heart says emotional. How do I balance academia, pastoring and faith? All are vital to my existence.
