Occupation Art Educator and Early Childhood Teacher
Introduction I am an artist and early childhood educator with a passion for thinking "out of the box" and getting creative! I try to find ways to make learning fun and individualized for each student. I am currently teaching art to K-6th grade students. I have previously taught kindergarten, first and second grade as well over the past 23 years. With a passion and desire to research sound educational doctrine, a hunger for knowledge and a need to gain new insight into how children learn best, I would describe myself as a life-long learner. My creative talents coupled with my dedication to "never give-up" mentality allow me to find creative learning strategies to meet the individual learning styles of all students. The progressive nature of 21st Century learners, presents the need for more arts integration to build a generation of students powered by a desire to learn and understand through authentic learning opportunities. A proper balance of meeting development milestones in learning with academic standards while infusing the curriculum with choices and avenues for creative expression is essential in maintaining long-range educational goals for all students.
Interests I love my family, love teaching, photography, art, and I absolutely love to learn! You are never too old to learn and you can learn something new everyday if you engage in the opportunities God has given you while using the incredible gifts He has given you to the best of your ability! He alone is my Rock and my salvation; Psalm 62:2
Favorite Movies I love movies with a great message! A few of my favorites include: The Blind Side, The Help, Les Miserables, Pride and Prejudice, Sweet Home Alabama, The Nanny Diaries, Elf, The Princess Diaries, The Great Outdoors.
Favorite Music Christian Contemporary is my favorite! I love old hymns that have been redone with a modern beat like Avalon - Faith: A Hymns Collection and Fernando Ortega's music. Old 80's Music and Beach Music are also favorites.
Favorite Books The Bible, A Confident Heart by Renee Swope, Jesus Calling by Sarah Young, Experiencing God Day by Day by Henry Blackaby, all "Godwinks" books by Squire Rushnell and a tremendous collection of children's books.
