The love potion you made tastes terrible. How will you drink it?
If it's guaranteed to work, hey just drink it down. The taste will not last forever, but the benefits very likely could. Many things in life are not that pleasant to experience, but you have to experience them to get to something that you really want. The unpleasant experience will quickly fade, but the reward gained will last much longer, often forever.
