IntroductionA native of Detroit, I earned a B.A. in Communication from Michigan State University in 1969. Upon graduation, I was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve and served on board the carrier USS AMERICA and on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations. Released from active duty in 1971, I returned to Detroit and to a career in automotive public relations, first with Chrysler and now with Toyota. I retired as a Captain in the U. S. Naval Reserve in 1999, after 32 years of service. My career as a Navy public affairs specialist has included command of four Reserve units. Senior officer assignments have included directing media operations for the 50th Anniversary of the End of World War II, heading the Joint Information Bureau, Plymouth, England for the 50th Anniversary of D-Day and created media training teams at the Naval War College, Newport, R.I. in 1997, 1998 and 1999. I remain an active supporter of the Navy and participate in a number of military-related organizations, including the U.S. Navy Memorial, The U.S. Naval Institute, The International Armed Forces Council, Vietnam Veterans, VFW, American Legion and AMVETS.
