IntroductionA month before graduating from high school in 1967, students were given an aptitude test. There were four possible jobs identified for females: homemaker, secretary, teacher and nurse. Since I scored high on biology, I was earmarked for a nursing profession. I chose art and went to the Montreal Museum of Fine Art. I lasted one year. I entered university life and went on to graduate with scientific degrees in geography and forestry. I worked in forestry, oil and gas, treaty negotiations in private and public organizations for 30 years. Only after a major stroke in 2005, did I decide to return to back to art. I work primarily in oil, acrylics, colour pencil and watercolour. My work is characterized by strong emphasis on color. I enjoy painting in the mimetic or abstracted style, with the concept being the driving force. I am in my fourth year BFA at UBC and have discovered other art forms that intrigue me, such as print media (relief, seriography and etching). I have no map and no particular destination other than becoming the best I can be, so the journey is a challenge but an exhilarating one.
