Introduction	We came to the cut, the Bloke and I, separately, singled, and in different years, but each with the stunningly novel idea of going bush, of brandishing independence and total disregard for conformity. Ha ! …and then discovering that 90% of the single-handed boating community once had the same idea. Not such an original idea then. But. Never Mind. No-one ashore knows that: so one mother said, when told by her son he was living on a boat, “don’t worry dear, I won’t tell anyone”. With relationships in our wakes and the thought of becoming embroiled in another not even making it into the fog surrounding our respective wish-lists, the Bloke and I happily crossed canals for several years. Then, one day, we found ourselves cruising in the same direction. And the Bloke told me about an old boater once saying that “there’s someone for everyone on the cut”.
