| Introduction | Ohio born and raised, I grew up in Vermilion, Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie. This town, nestled between Cleveland and Sandusky was a wonderful place to grow up - if you loved boating and had access to boats. I discovered that you didnt necessarily have to own a boat to do a lot of boating and by age 14 was a regular crew member on a 30 foot MORC racer. There I learned the fine arts of beer drinking and cursing. But more importanly was introduced to the concept of putting many personality types onto a small boat for many hours and coming away with new friends or people to avoid after the experience. This is not unlike work, politics, or even family dynamics. But I have seen it in young kids - those who grow up racing sailboats seem to be better at integrating themselves into the adult world. While much of my sailing time is very selfish, a part of me will always drive to support new sailors to appreciate the sport and pastime as I have. |
