My blogs
Introduction | Hi! I'm a new face here in Hell, and I'd love to make new friends and contacts in the place. I'm approachable, accessible, and generally supine, so don't worry that I might ever express an inconvenient or embarrassing opinion! Particular interests of mine are university governance -- especially how to free up frozen or 'sleeping' assets, and promote greater labour flexibility -- and the transformation of learning and thinking through the new digital technologies which it's all too easy for academics and other public professionals to overlook. Without bigging myself up unduly, I like to think of myself as a sort of go-to guy for infernal devices. Any questions? Just ask! |
---|---|
Interests | Audit, Poetry, Edna Longley, J.C., TLS, Public sector reform, University governance. |
Favorite movies | I never leave the cinema without feeling that some annoying problem I thought was really important to think about has just, you know, disappeared. |
Favorite music | I don't think of myself as a serious 'sound-head' (!) but have been known to tap my feet to the late great Mark E. Smith! (Oo-er, he's not still alive is he? LOL!) |
Favorite books | I love Lavinia Greenlaw's stuff. Her residency work has been fantastic. Also getting interested in some more 'difficult' poets like Don Paterson and Edna Longley. More generally, I love 'J.C.'s column in the TLS, especially his crazy tours of the bookstores, and the details about the lives of great modernist poets that he culls from those obscure little specialist journals! Poetry before about 1970 doesn't really grab me, though. But *Four Quartets* is great, and some great work has been done by the Conceptual people. Sorry! :) |
