| Introduction | Micropterus Salmoides, is weird latin for BASS. Here is some Basic info on them. Bass are the top predator in the aquatic ecosystem. Bass as juveniles feed on zooplankton and aquatic larvae. Once they reach a size of 6-8 inches, they begin to feed on small fish and crayfish. Crayfish are a the biggest food source for adult bass. A bass can eat an object nearly half it's own size. Bass have 6 senses. hearing, sight, smell, taste, touch and lateral line. The lateral line picks up vibrations, and helps bass to detect pray when water is murky, or they have acquired some sort of eye damage(Bill Dance hook set). Bass can see up to 30 feet in clearwater, so don't stand on the end of your boat in a white shirt. A bass can sense 1/200th drop of substance in 100 gallons of water. The Basses biggest threats are pollution, and droughts. The average life span of a Bass is 16 years. |
