| Introduction | I was a retail wine professional for six years, I’ve seen it all. The questions some people ask make me wonder if we really are all going to hell in a hand basket or if someone (an old boyfriend perhaps?) is playing a candid camera joke on me. In the interest of education, I’ve decided to share my insight with the world. Aren’t you lucky? For years, when I was in the restaurant business, I thought about writing a book and calling it something along the lines of, Being an Informed and Educated Customer: How Not to be a Complete Wine/Food Idiot. Since I’m a full time working mother and wife - who has time for writing the War and Peace version of Wine/Food for Dummies? So, here’s my contribution to society, a blog sharing knowledge gleaned from hard years working in the kitchen and in retail, along with some fantastically funny or just puzzling questions I get asked by my customers. With patience, I’m sure there will soon be enough material to write that book after all! Consider this your glimpse behind the curtain into the retail wine world. As the French like to say, Poisson sans boisson--c'est poison, or as we would say, Fish without drinking wine is poison. Happy drinking! |
