| Introduction | My name is Salter. I'm 15-1/2 years old. For 9 months of the year, I live aboard a Nordhavn 47 with my dad. My boat-schooling education is not just about online courses. It's about real life experiences. We have completed year 3 of what was supposed to be a 3-year plan, traveling in the Great Lakes, up and down the Atlantic Coast, and finally, in Bahamas - over 11,000 nautical miles so far. But as you know, plans can change. We’ve decided to add another year as live-aboards. It's that hard to imagine selling our boat and leaving behind the amazing lifestyle it has given us. My dad says it feels like we've both experienced 10 years of living in just 3. Our thousands of photos make his point. These posts are meant to do a few things. They serve as a research and middle school writing class for me. They help capture experiences for me to look back on someday. And they let me share what I see, and do, and think, to hopefully make people smile and maybe inspire them to do what we are doing. My dad helps me a lot with them. He calls himself a "heavy editor." When I groan, he tells me that's how his dad taught him to write better. I hope you enjoy my blog. |
