Introduction Composer Missy Mazzoli joins the Albany Symphony and the Enlarged City School District of Troy as a “Composer-Educator” partner, as part of a grant funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Favorite Movies Deemed “one of the more consistently inventive, surprising composers now working in New York” by the New York Times, Ms. Mazzoli will be involved with Doyle Middle School students, designing an interdisciplinary program centered on composition. Students will work with Ms. Mazzoli and music teachers Rhonda Hermance and John Vatalaro to compose original music on the subject of the history of Troy, NY and the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. The student’s work will be premiered at the Troy Savings bank Music Hall in May 2012 as part of the Albany Symphony’s Capital Heritage Project performance. In addition, along with presentations of some of Ms. Mazzoli’s latest music, the Albany Symphony will premiere a new commission at the end of the season.
