Introduction	Our lives were changed forever on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 when we found out that my husband, Rex, had an 8 cm mass in the base of his esophagus, and the doctor believed it to be cancer. Soon after, he was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer. He was told to expect to live 6 - 12 months. He lived for 19 months following his diagnosis.
