| Introduction | So you know the woman in the bookstore cafe? The one with the Southern Pecan decaf and dreadlocks? She might be wearing a quirky little hat or a piece of jewelry that sounds like windchimes when she moves. She'd probably be reading Essence or Yoga Journal or a guidebook to Italy. That's me. Or maybe the woman in the corner booth at the coffeehouse scribbling poems in her journal. Or, on rare occasions, reading that poetry at an open mic night. Also me. Then, again, maybe you were driving through the college campus and saw the lit prof and her students on the quad on a beautiful spring day. Again, me. The woman taking her niece and nephew to the theatre to see Peter Pan on stage 'cause she feels it's her duty to bring magic into their lives? Oh, that's so me. Then there are the neosoul concerts, record stores (don't you miss vinyl?), Whole Foods, tai chi and yoga classes, art lessons, hole-in-the-wall restaurants with great food, anyplace seaside . . . I love the ocean. That's me. |
