| Introduction | I struggled w/a slight case of acne in my 20’s. My acne religiously visited me with each menstruation & left pits on my cheeks as reminders of its visits. I finally went on the pill at 26 to rid of my acne & stayed on it until I was 33. True...my acne was very much under control but there was a trade-off. After 2 years of regular usage, I had these faint birth mark-like spots develop on both of my cheek bones. Had I known then what I know now, I might have taken more precaution b/c those tiny, ever-so-light in color birth marks eventually grew in size & darker in shade: melasma. Recently turned 36, I’m a single Asian female on a journey seeking for a treatment for my melasma. I’ve encountered many different forums w/women who are equally frustrated, desperate & disenchanted like me. When we live in a society where one’s physical appearance is so vital, it’s no wonder there are so many of us who become saddened by such skin pigmentation. Sometimes – it’s difficult to look in the mirror. Other times – the thought of putting concealer is such a chore! Many times – just give me a pillow so I can bury my head to release my tears of sadness. And so...my journey begins here... |
