| Introduction | people are interesting to watch. i got a camera as a gift. there is much yet to be done. Through these films I am attempting to create a portrait that gives equal weight to the individuals featured therein, and the locations in which the action takes place. It is through this balance that I hope to achieve what I can only describe as a portrait of experience. During an experience, or while perceiving a memory of a specific experience, actions happen sequentially, but not necessarily. Events become jumbled even as they occur. One can only focus on certain sounds at certain moments, and the concurrent auditory stimuli fades into the background. In order to replicate this phenomena, the sound of the film is edited such that only certain parts of dialogue can be heard. The audio clips chosen from integral and inconsequential remarks alike in an attempt to show that what we focus on and remember as relevant to the experience is not always what was necessary to accomplish the task at the time |
