| Favorite movies | you seriously don't want to do this, if i start talking you'll just end up walking away... i'll merely just give you my favorite film by decade. the 20s, wings, (a silent classic), the 30s, grand hotel, (this film could seriously be well received even if it was received today), the 40s, casablanca, (there's only one casablanca), the 50s, all about eve, (i dare you to show me a more perfect screenplay), the 60s, dr. strangelove or how i learned to stop worrying and love the bomb, (aside from being the greatest title of all time, one of the best films of all time, the darkest, coldest, scariest comedy you'll ever see), the 70s, annie hall, (every line of this film is golden), the 80s, amadeus, (i will never tire of that masterpiece), the 90s, quiz show, (suprised? when it all comes down to it, i've watched that one more than any other film of the decade), the 00s, tough since there's two years to go, but at the moment, future sights unseen..., good night and good luck, (greatness at every turn and a challenging question proposed) |
| Favorite music | The Beatles are the greatest band in history! Period! Also a big Dylan fan. In a nutshell, I enjoy classical, especially early 20th century American classical (Gershwin anyone?) and Jazz Age stuff of the 20s. I like 60s rock n roll, 70s rock, late 70s/early 80s new wave/post-punk (love talking heads), 80s alternative (love the pixies especially), 90s alternative and indie (pavement being my favorite), 00s indie music (arcade fire, wilco, drive-by truckers, etc). |
| Favorite books | favorite classics:, a tale of two cities, the great gatsby, the curious case of benjiman button, (i'll eat up anything by fitzgerald basically), a farewell to arms, (ditto hemingway). favorite contemporary fiction: i really dig anything by philip roth, american pastoral, being my favorite, i really dig anything by nick hornby, about a boy, being my favorite, and i'm currently loving jonathan safran foer, everything is illuminated, and, extremely loud & incredibly close, (my biography?) are both brilliant, the kite runner. in terms of non-fiction, here are a few standouts:, the world is flat, the lexus and the olive tree, jihad vs. mcworld, guests of the ayatollah, all the shah's men, founding brothers, charlie wilson's war, the human web. the list really goes on... basically i'll read anything i can get my hands on regarding the cold war, iran, and globalization. |
