| Introduction | I got my first microscope aged 10 and though I tried to direct my career towards the arts, it was the sciences that claimed me. After an honours degree at The University of the Arts, London, I got a job at the Natural History Museum as a curator of fossil reptiles, amphibians and birds. Back to Uni to do my biological sciences degree, then utterly fed up with the boss, I forsook palaeontology for stuff that's still around - swimming around in the case of marine fishes. Career prospects were awful so I went over to the Dark Side (management) in the new Department of Visitor Services. I later joined the planning group for the Darwin Centre at the NHM. Museum. My spare time is spent trying to figure out what I'm sharing my environment with, and when the mood takes me I dress up in 17th Century clothes and go re-enacting. (Just in case you thought I had no sense of humour ;-) So, I've flown through the air like a bird, scaled the snow-clad peaks, dived in the deep dark ocean, crossed the deserts of Namibia, paddled down the Zambesi and been down caves and kissed a bat......all in the name of science |
