| Introduction | Call me Irene. I'm writing this blog under my favorite pseudonym,Irene MacPherson. I first came across that name while working at the library Reserve Room at WWU back in the 80's. Someone by that name had checked out some materials, and I was struck by how powerful it sounded. I thought, Man - with a name like that, no one could touch me! ("Touch" in the sense of "harm." I rather like being touched... .) So, I decided back then that my first novel would feature Irene MacPherson as a main character - a plucky, indomitable young woman. The novel has yet to materialize, but I have time. Meanwhile, the name has stuck with me. Irene seemed the right persona for this blog because she is so fearless. It takes a fearless person to expose her weight problem and various other psychopathologies to the entire online world, even if only two people ever read it. My real name is Joanna. But please, call me Irene. :) I'm a college English teacher, mother of two, and a writer of sorts. My favorite activities include thinking too much, driving myself nuts, and finding things to laugh about. Welcome to my blog. |
