Introduction Percy Jackson and The Lightening Thief Percy Jackson is a story of a young boy growing up in New York City. His life is plagued by troubles which all seem to stem from his learning disability. Percy has dyslexia, and despite his best efforts to fit in at school, he is continually getting into disastrous trouble that he barely understands. The book begins at the conclusion of his 6th grade year when the bizarre trouble he is continually getting into (his algebra teacher turns into a monster that tries to eat him!) begins to make sense as he finds himself enrolled as a camper for children like him; he is the son of a human woman and the Greek god Poseidon. Percy spend his summer at Camp Halfblood, where he learns about his ancestry, his dyslexia (the result of his brain being wired to read Greek, not English), makes friends with other heroes, and saves the world! This blog is a place for my students in the 6th grade at the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School in Dorchester, MA to write about their reactions and connections to the writing of Rick Riordan and the adventures of Percy Jackson.
