You're wearing a sweater that stretches down to your feet. What color belt do you put on?
In order to answer this question one must first define the purpose of a belt. Is it ornamental, must it match one's shoes? Or is it practical, securing one's pants? If one defines a belt as ornamental then it will be worn over the sweater and therefore must coordinate. But if a belt is practical it will be worn underneath said sweater and color won't matter.
