Jim & Loraine Explore Europe

About me

Introduction Jim and Loraine here, doing what we do and sharing our adventures across the pond with you! Hard to believe these travels began in 2002 when Loraine explored D-Day to the Rhine, Stephen Ambrose-style, with 30-some like-minded bus-mates, scratching down copious handwritten notes by day and slaving away in her trip journal into the wee hours every night. Her first words to Jim at the airport, post-tour, were: “We have to go back!” Loraine still keeps a handwritten journal—although our amazing, whirlwind days in France the last two years found her writing the bulk of its contents from copious handwritten notes on our very long overseas flight home. Jim, meanwhile, has perfected his daily ritual of cell phone briefings and laptop blogs so you can come along for the ride. Last year he mused about everything from chocolate tarts and a crashed wedding reception in Sainteny to French cows and picturesque views. Beyond the musing is always our quest to remember the local boys of World War II who died on or over European soil and perhaps catch a glimpse of a fleeting figure or two. What will we discover this time? You’ll find out right here at Jim and Loraine’s “trip central!”
