| Introduction | Credenza: originally, this meant 'belief' in Italian. Being involved in credenza meant that the individual tested by tasting potentially poisoned food, for another person. This act then leant the name credenza to the room in which this took place: eventually the furniture took up the definition 'credenza'. |
