| Introduction | Lauren Herman is a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley working in Nairobi, Kenya from June 2011 until May 2012 on a project that builds upon her dedication to increasing consumer knowledge and the financial capabilities of microfinance borrowers in Kenya. For her project, she will create what she calls “a consumer education manual” that will be used by consumers and local consumer advocacy groups to help borrowers holistically understand risk, investment, and cost of borrowing. The goal of the project is to increase the transparency of the Kenyan microfinance industry and the efforts of current consumer education campaigns.
