| Introduction | Mining. People criticise mining for destroying the environment, being destructive, messy or leaving a blot on the natural landscape, During talks the Environmentalists have often made their point, sometimes loudly. They would like to ban mining altogether and make the world right once more.They use the internet to make their point, show up at various rallies, attempt to sway the politics of various governments by moving the voting toward a greener world. What they don't seem to realise is with out mining the internet simply would no longer exist, technology wouldn't exist, mobile phones, housing as we know it wouldn't exist, the ability to move people, goods, things about tens, hundreds or even thousands of kilometers simply wouldn't exist, paved roads wouldn't exist, the delivery of fresh water, power, in fact most of the every day things we use and take for granted began life in a mine somewhere, the metals, the plastics, the clothing, the food, communications, the medicines simply wouldn't exist, Being an Environmentalist is an extremely difficult tight rope to walk, and is strung between the pillars of Idealist and the pillar of the Hippocratic. |
