| Introduction | Gene grew up on a farm near Henderson, NE and remembers watching severe storms roll in with his parents in the family car from a vantage point at the end of the farmyard driveway. His first memory of a tornado was the devastating May 5, 1964 F-5 that passed a few miles west of his boyhood home. A Mennonite pastor who lived more than 20 years in the southern African nation of Botswana, Gene moved to Western Oklahoma in 2006. Gene began storm chasing “old school” with a map and a weather radio in 1999. He purchased his first camcorder in 2001 and caught a Nebraska tornado on video shortly thereafter. He enjoys chasing solo as well as with his WXtreme Chase Team partners. Gene has no idea how many tornadoes he has seen – he quit counting at 200 – but says that, without a doubt, his most memorable experience was witnessing the 2004 Hallam, NE monster. Gene has two Panasonic GH 2 Micro Four/Thirds cameras: one dedicated to shooting stills and the other to video. He joined the Tornado Titans as an associate in 2013. |
