Introduction	New Materials Breed New Designs:I believe that designing pattern is like having a conversation with materials. By playing with a certain type of cloth or a certain technique, we see the shapes that the material wants to take. All you have to do is ask, "what happens if I do this?" and listen to what the material tells you. This approach to textile design shares a lot with physics. You learn what will cause a physical effect, and you probably want to know why. I decided to explore the potential of magnetic textiles because it is uncharted territory. That translates to fertile ground for new materials, which in turn generate new design possibilities!
