| Introduction | The Highway Code is a guide book for road users in Srilanka, prepared by the Department of Motor traffic, and published by The Dept of Govt.Printing. It is a publication of rules and guidelines designed to promote road safety. There are Five Sections of The Highway Code: the Road users on foot which applies to Pedestrian,Road users on wheels which applies to Pedal Cyclists,Road users on wheels which applies to Motororists,Signs & Road Markings And Informative Signs. The booklet was first published in 1951, and has become the official road user guide, having been updated continually to reflect current practices.Its standing is so great that a number of rules in it have been reflected in modern traffic law, and failure to adhere to them can result in criminal prosecution. |
