| Introduction | Since this blog is about caregiving, I will give a little history on my adventure in caregiving. I have been caregiving for approximately 20 years. It started with my grandfather who had senile dementia at about 81 yrs. of age. I helped Grandma take care of Grandpa (setting up a caregiver network to help Grandma, Dr's appointments, cleaning, finance's, and the hardest part: taking Grandpa's driving privilage away). The driving was especially difficult as Grandma never drove, so I was taking away all their independence. Grandpa passed and I have been taking care of Grandma ever since. Grandma is 93 years young and still lives on her own but needs help watching over finances, Dr's., shopping, etc... I also helped my Dad and Mom out when Dad got cancer and we knew something was not right with Mom. Then when Dad passed in Feb. 2010, Mom came to live with us. I don't think there is too much that I have not been exposed to as a caregiver. |
