Frustration with online marketplaces lead to the development of ArtFire, a handmade marketplace which supports and allows artists to list and sell handmade items free of charge. John Jacobs, and Tony Ford coined a process known as Community Directed Development (CDD) which puts members in control of e-commerce and social site development and requires senior staff and developers on the front line of customer engagement.
