| Introduction | I am an author, teacher, and counselor. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing and an MA in Counseling Psychology. I have also developed numerous workshops which use writing as a tool for healing through grief and loss. I am also a playwright and editor, and my work has been widely anthologized. My work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. My first book, Monsoons, was published in 1999 by Duality Press. My novel, Lay My Sorrows Down, won the Barbara Deming Award for Women in 2000. Lost Fathers: How Women Can Heal From Adolescent Father Loss, was released in May, 2005 from Hazelden Press. Writing Begins with the Breath: Embodying Your Authentic Voice was released in September, 2007, from Shambhala Publications, and in 2010, my novel Ghost Swamp Blues was published (White River), and another title from Shambhala: The Writing Warrior: Discovering the Courage to Free Your True Voice. I am at work on two other novels, and a book on creativity. I direct the creative writing program at Yavapai College, and I also teach workshops at Kripalu, the Omega Institute, and Hollyhock.
